九一八事變（又稱奉天事變、柳條湖事件）是日本在中國(guó)東北蓄意制造并發(fā)動(dòng)的一場(chǎng)侵華戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)，是日本帝國(guó)主義侵華的開端。

1931年9月18日夜，在日本關(guān)東軍安排下，鐵道“守備隊(duì)”炸毀沈陽(yáng)柳條湖附近日本修筑的南滿鐵路路軌，并栽贓嫁禍于中國(guó)軍隊(duì)。日軍以此為借口，炮轟沈陽(yáng)北大營(yíng)，是為“九一八事變”。次日，日軍侵占沈陽(yáng)，又陸續(xù)侵占了東北三省。1932年2月，東北全境淪陷。此后，日本在中國(guó)東北建立了偽滿洲國(guó)傀儡政權(quán)，開始了對(duì)東北人民長(zhǎng)達(dá)14年之久的奴役和殖民統(tǒng)治。

“九一八事變”是日本帝國(guó)主義長(zhǎng)期以來(lái)推行對(duì)華侵略擴(kuò)張政策的必然的結(jié)果，也是企圖把中國(guó)變?yōu)槠洫?dú)占的殖民地而采取的重要步驟。它同時(shí)標(biāo)志著世界反法西斯戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)的開始，揭開了第二次世界大戰(zhàn)東方戰(zhàn)場(chǎng)的序幕。

the mukden incident, or manchurian incident, was a staged event engineered by japanese military personnel as a pretext for the japanese invasion in 1931 of northeastern china, known as manchuria.

on september 18, 1931, lt. suemori kawamoto detonated a small of dynamite close to a railway line owned by japan's south manchuria railway near mukden (now shenyang). the explosion was so weak that it failed to destroy the track and a train passed over it minutes later, but the imperial japanese army accused chinese dissidents of the act and responded with a full invasion that led to the occupation of manchuria, in which japan established its puppet state of manchukuo six months later. the ruse of war was soon exposed to the international community, leading japan to diplomatic isolation and its march 1933 withdrawal from the league of nations.

the bombing act is known as the "liutiaohu incident" (simplified chinese: 柳條湖事變; traditional chinese: 柳條湖事變), and the entire episode of events is known in japan as the "manchurian incident" (kyūjitai: 滿洲事變) and in china as the "september 18 incident"(simplified chinese: 九一八事變).
